How many people have Tinnitus?
It is estimated that 50 million Americans are affected by Tinnitus to a certain degree.
7-12 million Americans suffer from severe Tinnitus which affects their normal day to day functions. 6% of the American population experience some form of Tinnitus at different stages of life. 2% of Americans have Tinnitus which is severe and requires medical treatment. The above statistics will show that one in 7-8 Americans suffer tinnitus. 12% of American males between the ages of 65 and 74 suffer from varying degrees of Tinnitus. Americans who enjoy the music of loud bands are the greatest sufferers of Tinnitus. Americans who play woodwind instruments often become Tinnitus patients. 35 million Americans over the age of 40 suffer from Tinnitus. The demographics of Tinnitus sufferers show that the Caucasian Americans are the worst sufferers of Tinnitus. Asians suffer Tinnitus to a lesser degree and Africans to an even smaller degree. 10% of elderly Americans suffer from tinnitus and as a result of the continuous noise in the ear suffer depression frustration and irritability caused by noise nuisance. One study found that 29% of Tinnitus sufferers hear continuous noises in one ear. 52% of Tinnitus patients hear noises in both ears and 19% of tinnitus sufferers hear noises in their head. As Tinnitus affects an alarming percentage of the population and patients are growing in number extensive research is being conducted to reduce the suffering of those who suffer the annoyance of noise called Tinnitus.
