I spend a great deal of time on this blog writing about issues surrounding adults and hearing aids. It makes sense to discuss hearing aids and infants a bit as well.

To be honest, the reason I don’t write much about infant hearing aids is probably because I don’t know much about them. I have a 10 month old son but he is blessed with good hearing so I have not been plunged into the world of young kids and aids. Thankfully.

Does anyone reading this blog have experience with infants and hearing aids?

One thing that is clear is that if a young baby has hearing issues it is crucial to fit them with a hearing aid as soon as possible because so much crucial language and learning development is done in the very first months of life and these require good hearing.

The daunting part about hearing aids for infants is that they likely are not less expensive than those for adults yet the babies ears are growing so fast that they may not last long. Ideally they can simply be refit as the child ages, avoiding the need to buy a number of the aids throughout the child’s growth.

Please contribute to this post if you have any experience with the issue!

I just returned from a 2 day trip to NYC and am so happy to be home with my children. I have a 5 month old baby boy. Looking at his little ears I wonder how hearing aids for infants would ever work.
I anticipate that they are crucial to the development of hearing in infants but how they actually work is amazing. Does anyone have any experience with infant hearing aids?
