Have you ever gone to church, attended a public reading in a library, a concert, or someplace where your hearing aid picks up noisy background interference? A new technology has come out that can eliminate this problem all together. After being widely successful in Northern Europe, a new technology called a hearing loop is being installed in multiple areas in western Michigan and New York.

These loops, which consist of thin copper wires installed around the edges of the room on the floor, radiate electromagnetic signals that can be picked up by your hearing aids or cochlear implants. The loops cut out everything except for what is being transmitted through the microphone, giving you close to crystal-clear clarity.

Think you need a new or special hearing aid to make this technology work? Think again. The technology that makes this work is called a telecoil, or t-coil, and it is already built into two-thirds of current hearing aids as well as all cochlear implants!

The New York subway is installing this technology into 500 fare booths and Michigan State University has already installed it into their basketball arena. The Hearing Loss Association of America has partnered with the American Academy of Audiology to campaign for more installations of hearing loops across the United States. I think this is a colossal step forward in hearing aid technology and encourage you to write to these associations to get a hearing loop installed in your towns and cities. Let me know your thoughts on this new technology!

It is difficult to find a source online that is dedicated to news on hearing aids. Does anyone reading this blog have a site that they go to in order to find out the newest hearing aid news? Since there is an apparent lack of hearing aid news sites, I will shoot to make this blog the answer.

What topics would people like me to cover related to hearing aid news? I am considering the following topics: new technology, new pricing, insurance updates and anything else that seems interesting about hearing aids. What am I missing?

I will spend today researching hearing aid technological advancements over the last few years. That will be my first foray into hearing aid news. Because that is not very timely and pressing as news should be, I will also shoot to include a piece on the latest insurance news on hearing aids. I plan on being the first to break the news when it becomes easy to pay for a hearing aid with insurance. Which ever company allows this deserves credit.

So, here you are, at the Internet’s premier source for hearing aid news, WELCOME!

I am getting ready this month to fly to both las vegas and to London. I am excited about my trips but they got me thinking about the rules around flying on airplanes with hearing aids. Does anyone have any experience with this? What are the current rules around bringing and wearing hearing aids on air planes? With all of the terrorism scare out there these days, it would not surprise me if they have some harsh rules around hearing aids on planes.

I have not been able to gather too much information around the use of hearing aids on planes to date. I was able to determine that people are not allowed to have their hearing aids turned on during take off and landing. The FAA looks at hearing aids the same way that they view mobile phones. They are afraid of signal interference.

I can, via logica deduction, now know that the FAA allows hearing aids on planes. The fact that they require them to be turned off during take off and landing tells me this. If anyone has additional knowledge about hearing aids and traveling on airplanes please add to this blog post! Thank you very much and happy new year.

Every year brings new technology for hearing aids. Now is the time I often wonder what hearing aid developments we will see in the new year. What improvements will we see in 2010?

While we have seen wonderful developments over the last decade in hearing aids in the areas of size, sound quality, durability and more, there are still many improvements that need to occur.

One area of hearing aid technology that certainly can use a hit of improvement is the batteries. Ideally 2010 will bring an increase in battery performance. This would include both longer life for hearing aid batteries as well as greener technology. Millions of hearing aid batteries are used and disposed of every year. This cycle needs to be broken.

I will also look for improvements in the world of feedback cancelation for hearing aids.

Let’s face it, it is not always easy to come up with ideas for stocking stuffers. I mean, how many times can someone receive sox and oranges in their stockings. I have an idea, if anyone you know or love uses a hearing aid, consider giving them hearing aid batteries as stocking stuffers.

There is no doubt that hearing aid batteries are expensive and wear out too fast which makes them an excellent candidate for a gift. But you can do something else by giving hearing aid batteries as stocking stuffer gifts, you give acknowledgement to the recipient that you are aware that they use a hearing aid. Far too often we dont talk about hearing aids and we pretend they dont exist. This is silly. Talk about hearing aids, give hearing aid batteries as gifts!

Hearing aid discounts are hard to find and you have to be sure you research who is offering the discount. The challenge with looking for hearing aid discounts is that you do not really want to push for a discount with something as crucial to your health as a hearing aid.

Hearing aids, similar to other medical devices do not lend themselve to discounts. The better way to think about buying a hearing aid in an economically way is to research exactly what hearing aid is best for you, see what your insurance will cover and then buy it. This way you will not find yourself needing to buy another hearing aid a year after you have purchased the initial one. This repeat buying of hearing aids is how you really lose money.

The best discount you can find on a hearing aid is buybuying the best hearing aid for yourself first.

One of the most frequent searched terms regarding hearing aids is ‘hearing aid reviews’. This is indicative of the lack of a clear leader in the hearing aid space and also of the mountains of information that exist about hearing aids.

It is very hard to determine what the best hearing aid for ones situation is and therefore we see many people searching the internet for hearing aid reviews. On our homepage you can find a link to our hearing aid reviews. We feel confident that we have presented a good insight into the different makers of hearing aids and the different situations that they serve but we are not claiming to be the ultimate resource.

Hearing aid reviews are all over the internet and it is difficult to determine what is the motive behind the hearing aid reviews. Often times the reviews feel slanted with an intent to sell a particular product.

Our advice at hearing aids 1000 is to read our reviews on hearing aids as well as others online but most importantly to speak with your doctor and audiologist. Do not be afraid to do your own research but at the end of the day, talk to a professional. The doctors are your best source for hearing aids reviews.

The holidays are a wonderful time to spend time with family. There is no doubt you will be with family members who you have not seen in a long time. Quite possibly some of these family members will use hearing aids.

Use the holidays as a time to talk with your family members who use hearing aids. Ask them how the hearing aids are working for them. Are they happy with them, do they need new hearing aids? Perhaps they need help changing out the battery on the hearing aids.

The holidays are a special time. They are time to show people that you care for them and that you are thinking of them. Using hearing aids is not easy and it is not fun. Reach out and show compassion this season. Show the family members you have who use hearing aids that you are thinking of them and want the best for them.

Think of it this way, chances are we all will need hearing aids at some point. Use the holidays to treat people how you would want to be treated!

They say everything is bigger in Texas, well I hope that does not apply to hearing aids as well! Just kidding. I want to take a quick look at hearing aids in Texas. If any of our readers have insight into how hearing aids are percieved and dealt with in Texas please add to this blog.

There seems to be a couple of websites that are specific to Texas and hearing aids but the content does not seem to be anything unique. This is a bit frustrating. After searching a while on the Internet, my gut tells me that Texans treat hearing aids the same way that the rest of the US does. There are millions of Texans that could use hearing aids but currently are not due to the cost of them and the lack of insurance coverage.

I did discover that BCBS in Texas covers hearing aids for $1,000 every three years. This is not exactly going to cover the full expenses but it is better than a stick in the eye. I salute BCBS for giving coverage for hearing aids and I challenge other insurance companies in Texas and beyond to start covering all aspects of hearing aids. In Texas and all other states, hearing aids should be fully covered by insurance. We at HA1000 will not stop until the are!

Who has seen a person wearing a heairng aid in the movies? I do not remember seeing a single hearing aid in a movie and this goes not only for the standard block buster but also for movies that have casts of primarily older people. This is frustrating to me.

Anyone who is reading this post knows that there is a big percentage of people in the world who need hearing aids. Not just that they need hearing aids but that they wear hearing aids. The challenge is that hollywood is not represnting the use of hearing aids in the movies.

I understand that movies are fictional and there are many things about them that do not reflect reality. I just wish that they could use their position to show hearing aids in a realistic and positive light.

Has anyone seen hearing aids shown and represented well in a movie or a play? Please tell me if so!
